The verdict
Not for anyone under 18, which its own terms prohibit. For adults it is a widely used app, but its privacy terms are vaguer than most: two different companies are named as operator, chat-related information is shared with third parties including the Chat-GPT platform, data is kept with no fixed period, and photos you upload may be used to train its AI. It documents deletion and says it does not sell personal information. We found no lawsuit, fine or store removal involving PolyBuzz.

What the app showed at sign-up and in chat
- Sign-up
- Sign-up asked for gender and a birthday, which "cannot be edited"; outside the UK, PolyBuzz's terms rely on that date of birth. The app then asked for location access, with Android's note that the app "may share location data with third parties"; we declined.
- Pure Mode
- Pure Mode, the app's content filter, was switched off by default on the new account. Settings also list Parental controls and a Safety Center.
- Deleting the account
- Settings, Account, has a Delete button behind an Account Deletion Agreement. Deletion needs "No ongoing membership services" and a coins balance "less than 100", and the account is "deleted after 30 days".

One chat, one character, one day, connecting through a US VPN. The free Opals ran out at message 17 and the chat was switched to the free Standard model, so the recall answer came from a different model from the one that saw the facts come in. It shows what a free user gets when the Opals run out mid-chat, not a clean score for either model. Screenshots are cropped to the part of the screen described. Source: PolyBuzz store listing.

Reviews from US App Store (194, to ), Google Play (US) (600, to ), Trustpilot (15, to ). Stores show only their newest reviews, so busy apps cover a few weeks and quiet ones up to a year. Every review was read and given one main complaint; a blind re-check of 50 agreed 88% of the time. Google Play's one- and two-star reviews are weighted by how often each arrives. These are unhappy users only: the table shows what they complain about, not how many users are unhappy. How we count reviews.

Is PolyBuzz safe for kids?
PolyBuzz's terms of use are unambiguous: you must be 18 to use it, and the service is prohibited for minors worldwide. Its privacy policy's section on children says the same, and adds that it will suspend an account it believes belongs to someone under 18. Apple rates the iOS app 18+, listing frequent sexual content or nudity and mature or suggestive themes among the reasons.
Parents should go by the terms: the company does not intend children to use it. The Android app's settings include Parental controls and a Safety Center, but its terms and privacy policy still exclude anyone under 18.
How age is checked
In most countries, age is a birthdate you type at sign-up. The UK is the exception: under the Online Safety Act, UK users must complete a third-party age check through Ondato or Yoti, and PolyBuzz says it keeps only the result, not the ID.
That makes the app store the stronger gate. Apple's 18+ rating means Screen Time and Ask to Buy can block the download on a child's iPhone, and Google Play's content rating does the same through Family Link on Android.
Who holds your data
Two companies appear in PolyBuzz's own documents. The App Store and Google Play name Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, with a Delaware address, as developer. The terms of use and privacy policy say PolyBuzz is operated by Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited in Hong Kong. The terms are governed by Delaware law with arbitration in New York. The privacy policy says data may be processed outside your jurisdiction.
What happens to your chats
The privacy policy says PolyBuzz does not sell personal information. It also says information is used to improve the service and shared with third parties, including the Chat-GPT platform, that help deliver its features, and that some online identifiers are shared with advertising partners, with an opt-out in account settings. Photos you upload may be used to train its AI algorithm, according to the policy's consent section. There is no fixed retention period, and aggregated, anonymised data may be kept for any purpose.
The FAQ says neither character creators nor PolyBuzz can see your chats with a character. The privacy policy's sharing clause sits uneasily beside that, so treat what you type as data that leaves your phone, and keep real names and photos of real people out of it.
Moderation and reporting
PolyBuzz says recommended content goes through multi-layered AI screening and human moderation, and asks users to report illegal or inappropriate material, promising prompt action. That covers what is shown publicly. Private chats with a character are not described as moderated in the same way, which fits the FAQ's framing of its rule as a ban on public NSFW content rather than on what happens in private.
Deleting your account
The privacy policy documents deletion: go to Setting, then Account, then Delete. Deletion is irreversible. The app's Account Deletion Agreement adds two conditions: no ongoing membership, and a coin balance under 100. The account is then deleted after 30 days, and logging back in within that time cancels the deletion. If you subscribed in the App Store or Google Play, cancel the membership there as well, because deleting the account does not stop a store subscription.
