Privacy policy

Who we are

CompanionHunt (companionhunt.com) is an independent review site for AI companion and AI chat apps. We decide what is collected here and why. To ask anything about your data, use the contact form or write to hello@companionhunt.com.

If you sign up for email

We keep:

• your email address;
• where you signed up: the form, the page, and the app you were reading about;
• how your visit started: the first page, the site that sent you there (for example a search engine), any campaign tags in the link, and how many pages you had read;
• your country (from your connection, not your exact location), your browser's name and language setting.

Why: to send you the emails you asked for, which are price, free-tier and policy changes for the apps we cover, plus occasional app picks and offers from CompanionHunt, and to send each reader the part that matches what they were reading about. We use it for nothing else, and we never sell or rent the list.

Our legal basis is your consent, given when you submit the form. You can withdraw it at any time.

How long: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email will carry an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask through the contact form.

Subject lines are kept plain, and nothing explicit is ever put in an email.

If you use the contact form

We keep your message, the page it is about, your email if you choose to give one, and your country and browser name (to filter out spam). We use them only to deal with your message, and delete them within two years.

When you just read the site

• Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages and links are used. It sets cookies and sends Google your approximate location, device and browser details, and the pages you view. We do not send Google your email or any form contents. Google's own use of this data is covered by Google's privacy policy; you can opt out with Google's opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies.
• Links to apps. When you follow a "Visit" link to an app, we log the app, the time, the page you came from, your country, your browser details and the network you connect through, to count real clicks and filter out bots. We do not log your IP address in that record.
• Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes requests (including IP addresses) to deliver pages and block attacks.

Who else handles the data

Cloudflare stores the email list, contact messages and click log, and serves the site. Google runs Analytics. When we start sending email, we will name the service that sends it on this page before the first one goes out. Some of these companies process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their own safeguards.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop us using it. Use the contact form or hello@companionhunt.com, and we will reply within one month. If you are in the UK or the EU you can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

Adults only

CompanionHunt covers apps for adults and is meant for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if you think we have, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes to this page

If we change what we collect or why, we will update this page and the date at the top.
